New Email Spec Aims to Tangle Phishing Lines

Fifteen leading email service providers and tech companies have announced a joint effort to fight phishers. Google, Facebook, PayPal, Yahoo and Agari are among the companies behind the Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance spec. DMARC is a technical specification that standardizes how email receivers perform email authentication using well-known mechanisms.

Barnes & Noble to pull Amazon Publishing titles from shelves over exclusivity concerns

Barnes & Noble bans aren't just for superheroes anymore. The bookseller let it be known this week that it will be pulling Amazon Publishing titles from the shelves of its 700-odd retail locations, in protest of exclusivity deals struck by the mega-online retailer. As one B&N exec told The New York Times, "Our decision is based on Amazon's continued push for exclusivity with publishers, agents and the authors they represent," adding, "Their actions have undermined the industry as a whole and have prevented millions of customers from having access to content." Barnes & Noble will apparently continue to sell some Amazon titles through its own site, but good luck using its WiFi.

Samsung Galaxy S Advance available in the UK from Feb. 6, priced at �350

We heard last week that the Galaxy S Advance would be coming to Russia later this month, and now it's been confirmed that Samsung's latest mid-range smartphone will be hitting the UK around the same time. Independent retailer MobileFun has the device up for pre-order, with stock expected next Monday, Feb. 6. What's more, the Galaxy S Advance comes in at a relatively wallet-friendly £349.99 off-contract.

For your money, you'll get a 4-inch phone running Adnroid 2.3 Gingerbread and Samsung's TouchWiz 4 UI. There's also a 1GHz dual-core chip inside, and WVGA (480x800) Super AMOLED display on the front -- so not quite bleeding edge, but a powerful device nonetheless.
