Apple has reversed its position regarding the latest MacDefender malware outbreak and has published instructions on how customers can remove it. MacDefender is a phishing tool that tricks users into downloading "anti-virus" software that then attempts to collect their credit card information. Earlier in the week,
internal memos surfaced specifically instructing Apple Customer Service reps to neither "confirm or [
sic] deny whether the customer's Mac is infected or not." The details for removal are available from the Apple Support website. Apple is also expected to release an update to OSX later in the week that finds and destroys all known variants of MacDefender and will warn users explicitly, should they try to download it again.
