Scott's Gmail Alert (SGA) has been a great desktop notifier for a long time. In the just-released version 5, however, SGA has added a handful of new features which make it even better than its predecessors.
SGA 5 can also notify you of upcoming events from a Google Calendar (even password-protected ones), changes in your local weather forecast, and new messages sent to you via Google Talk. As before, you can set SGA as your default Windows mail client and send quick HTML replies without even launching your browser.
Only want SGA to notify you during working hours? There's a setting for that -- just specify the start and stop time, and the app will snooze when you no longer want it active. SGA 5 is packed with customization options, and you can even tell it to handle the heavy lifting, hide in the background, and pass actual notification duties on to Growl for Windows if you like.
The free version allows you to monitor a single Google account. An unlimited number of accounts is supported by the pro version -- and before you pshaw, it's only three bucks.
